Boiled Cake

1 cup cold water
2 cups seedless raisins
2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 1/2 cups flour
1/1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup nuts of your choice

Mix all ingredients except flour, baking soda and nut meats. Bring to a boil. Let mixture cool. Sift flour and baking soda together. Add nuts. Pour into greased and floured tube pan. Bake 55 minutes at 350 degrees. Frost, or serve with ice cream.
