Irish Apple Pastry
Source: Liberty Hill Inn
This recipe came from my husband's grandmother on the
Brosnihan farm in North Brookfield, Massachusetts. My
husband's mother, Katherine Brosnihan Flanagan, made it
with love for her family and passed down the recipe to
me. - Beth Flanagan, former innkeeper
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 Tablespoons Crisco shortening
4 teaspoons baking powder
2 Tablespoons sugar
2/3 cup milk
Mixture for filling:
2-1/2 cups chopped apples
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup sugar
2 Tablespoons butter
Frosting:
2 Tablespoons hot water
1-1/2 cups confectioners sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Sift flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Cut in
shortening until mixture is the consistency of small
peas. Add milk. Then roll out on well floured board to
1/2-inch thickness. Spread with filling mixture. Fold

Combine frosting ingredients. Spread it on pastry while
