Grandma's Caramel Cookies
Source: 3rd Pillsbury Bake Off
BAKE at 400° F. for 8 to 10 minutes.
MAKES about 6 dozen cookies.
Sift together
3 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon soda
Cream
1 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar, creaming well.
Add
1 egg
1/4 cup undiluted evaporated milk or top milk
1 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract; beat well.
Blend in dry ingredients gradually; mix thoroughly. Roll
out on floured board to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut into
rounds with 2 1/2-inch cutter. Place on ungreased baking
sheet. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake in moderately hot oven
(400° F.) 8 to 10 minutes.
