English Muffin Bread


Yield:2 loaves 8 1/2 x 4 1/2"

2 packets yeast
6 cups all-purpose flour
1 Tablespoon sugar
2 tsp salt
2 cups milk
¼ tsp baking soda
½ cup water
cornmeal

Combine 3 cups flour, yeast, sugar, salt, and soda. Heat liquids until warm to touch (like a baby's bottle). Add to dry mixture and beat by hand well. Add remaining flour to make a stiff dough. Spoon into pans that have been greased and sprinkled with cornmeal. Cover with a tea towel, let rise for 45 minutes. Bake in a preheated 400° oven for 25 minutes. Remove from pan immediately and cool on rack covered with towel.

 Once cool, slice and toast.
